Trying Out the Neti Pot
I've had an awful sinus headache for two weeks straight..
My nose has let me down! I've always had the reputation for having "quite the nose" and in recent weeks the old schnoz has not been functioning to perfection. I've had trouble finding the true taste in food and smelling the simple pleasures of daily life. Although sometimes, having a stuffed up nose, does have its perks, if you know what I mean..
However, along with the snuffed up nose, came the dreaded "sinus headache". There are days that I could have put a stick of dynamite up my honker just to be able to smell and break the mass of woe that's been in the front lobe of my head. However, that just would have lead to a further mess.
Enter the Neti Pot..
For weeks now I've been hearing people talk about this little pot of wonders at work, reading peoples posts on Facebook about this little pot of nasal irrigation. I will admit, it had me curious. However, it took me weeks of investigation and skepticism to be willing to try it.
After waking up with another whopper of a headache today to the point where my eyeballs were screaming at me and the front of my head feeling like it was bulging, I decided it was time to turn to "Neti".. Since the first time I heard about her, I was nervous. I don't know why as I've done "Natural Methods" before like "Ear Candling" which in retrospect, is far more dangerous considering there's a fire involved with that process.
What is the Neti Pot?
The Neti Pot is for "Nasal Irrigation". It looks like a little tea pot that you fill with 8oz.of warm, distilled water and one packet of the "Sinus Rinse", then you turn your head to the side, insert the spout of the pot into one nostril and pour the water into your nose. Yes! It sounds strange believe me. I was not keen on the idea because I am always the one that hates it when I get water in my nose while swimming or even taking showers, so why would I purposely put water in my nose? However, at this point I was desperate! I was also a bit weary of the fact that the water appeared to go in one nostril and out the other and sure enough it did! How very strange!
Before taking on this event though..
I needed to relax a little bit by pouring myself a glass of vino! No, it's not in the box so you'll have to supply your own. Maybe I was afraid I was going to drown?
My fears were misplaced...
OK, I will admit that the first 4 ounces were a bit strange as I saw water running into the sink, however, I couldn't tell if it was really coming out of my other nostril so I stopped and grabbed a mirror and sure enough it was! Cool and strange are the first two words that come to mind.
However, I am thrilled to say that I can now SMELL! My headache is going away and Neti is my new best friend!
Have you had a good experience with Neti?

I heard about this on Regis, and I can hardly believe it. I'm glad it helped.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday, Leslie.
We have used the ear candles before but I can't stand water up my nose....lol....We do love the Breathe right strips though. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting!
ReplyDeleteMy Blue Monday post, have a nice week!
Hmmm...interesting about the water going in one nostril and out the other....it would have taken 2 glasses of Merlot for me (but that might have been just a good excuse, eh? LOL)

I'm so glad it helped!
ReplyDeleteYes! Love the Neti Pot......it can be oh so helpful in the "allergy season" in Jersey!
ReplyDeleteThe netty pots is crap. You need the newer version. It's a plastic bottle you squeeze and the water goes up your nose and comes out the other nostril. It uses force and not gravity.
