Hoping For A Fabulous Friday!

After a long week, I'm hoping for a fabulous Friday..

This week Mother Nature went full blown into menopause and created such havoc around the world it seems. I've never seen an ice storm like I did yesterday and I hope I never see it again. I've been so bothered by it that I didn't even take pictures of the carnage in my yard and I can hardly stand to look out my windows and see all the brush, limbs and trees that are down around my yard.

My bad week started off on Sunday as I woke up with a large headache and an upset stomach. Yes, I created the upset by my beverage choice on Saturday and indulged probably more than I should have, but what really threw me over the edge was that I was silly enough not to have eaten while indulging.. I will not do that again.

Monday I looked at the branches that I cut on Saturday and love them more and more. Can you believe it's only been a couple days and already they are all starting to swell and show promise of blooming! Maybe it's the heat that the fireplace is making that has promoted this rapid flush of bud development? I look at my new mantle and couldn't be happier with the way it's blooming. You can catch up on that post by visiting my post about "Mantle Makeover".

This morning I woke up early and took my dog out for her morning constitution and heard a "crack" above me. The next thing I knew I was face first in the snow with a large limb on my back. If it hadn't been so cold and my face had not been stuck in a pile of snow, I think I would have just laid there crying all day long!

A class at work about pruning trees, soil & ornamentals took my mind off my experience this morning and I found myself dreaming of spring throughout the class.

My "Eating from the Pantry Challenge" is actually going well as tonight I made a lovely pork roast, boiled potatoes with frozen parsley from my summer 2010 garden and carrots and peas. My grocery list is very small this week containing only fresh food and dairy products. Usually by now I'd have a half a page written!  What is this challenge all about? Check out this post to find out.

My daughter had one of her friends over dinner which was a total surprise to me, but fortunately there was enough dinner for all four. After dinner, I received this message on my Facebook wall which literally made my entire day..

Hi! just wanted to thank you for dinner!! It was awesome! Thanks again! Let me know if you need help picking sticks up from the yard!

I've been missing my husband to tears as he plows snow for days on end when we get as much snow and ice as we have. Maybe one of these days we'll do something fun instead of just saying good morning and good night, often on the phone or texting.

My goal for Friday though is to make it fabulous! I'm going to my friend Tracy's house and attending a "Thirty-One" Party. I've never been to this kind of home demonstration so I had to find out what it's all about. At first I didn't think I should go because I'm certainly not "31" anymore, but realized it was really a party where they'll be bags, pocketbooks, baskets and everything that has to do with organization. OH! I love organization so I'm definitely going to enjoy this!  Have you ever gone to a "Thirty-One" Party? Here's the link to learn more about them.

Do you have plans for a Fabulous Friday?

  1. You have had a busy week and I'm glad you weren't hurt bad by the limb. Don used to plow snow too and had some stories to tell. Hope you have fun at the party. I never heard of that type before but I am behind the times.

  2. Thanks Donnie... hey aren't you still away? Are you sneaking up on your blog? We miss you! Yes, my husband, Rich, has been very busy this season.. When ever he is home he is usually singing to me through his snoring.. :( I miss my time with him.. I've never been to this type of home party, so I'm curious as to what I'll be buying..

  5. Just hopping by to thank you for your comment. Looks like your week has been one to remember. Glad you weren't killed by that branch. That could have been a whole lot worse.
Ours would have been a lot worse if it wasn't for the past 2 years spring and summer storms that took out, literally, every weak branch and tree in town. It looked like a war zone here for weeks on end. Large, old trees uprooted by strong winds after large amounts of rain, but just in 2 years time, the rebirth and new growth has been amazing. What was pruned has flourished and what was lost has been replaced with new landscaping and it is awesome. Nature replaces death with birth and crippling with healthy, strong growth.
Chin up, and even though it doesn't seem like it now, the best is yet to come.
Hope your weekend is a lot better.
    Hugs- Tete

  7. Hi Alison, I cut the branches from my snow filled backyard. I just cut them anywhere from the stem making them various lengths. Once inside I put them in a vase of water. Within days the buds started to turn green and then have been blooming ever since. You can do the same with other flowering shrubs and trees too! It's an easy way to bring some spring inside. :)

  11. Hello,
Hopping on over from Follow Friday 40 and Over! I am your newest follower. I can completely agree - wish I had some Forsythia branches in to force - perhaps I should go ahead! It has been quite rainy here - I thought yesterday it is too late to build an ark after the rain -
Hope you have a terrific day,
    Kathy

  12. Empty stomach is never a good idea when your drinking. Can't believe the branch that fell, glad your okay. How sweet of your daughters friend to text you. Didn't do anything special on Friday. Looking forward to Super Bowl tomorrow, mainly for the commercials and snacks we will be eating!
