My father-in-law, or otherwise known to my girls as, "Pop-Pop", was always great with them, infact, with all his grandchildren. He would tinker in his garage making creative crafts. Some were functional and had a desired purpose, while others just showed character.
When my oldest was a little girl and was learning how to tie her shoe, Pop-Pop came to the rescue by making the Practice Shoe. Isn't it adorable?
We passed it down to my youngest daughter who learned on it to. It's too bad my mother didn't have a practice shoe when my brother was trying to tie his laces.. as I fondly remember stories being told how my mom would sit my brother on the steps until he learned how to tie his shoe.. {Just in case you're wondering.. my stumbling block was learning how to tell time!}
Have a child or grandchild getting twisted with their laces, make a practice shoe!

What a fun, practical grandpa! I see so many children today wearing shoes with laces that don't need tying, it's another thing which may one day be called a dying art.

What a wonderful idea. He must have been a very creative man. That is a treasure that can be passed down to each generation. ~~Sherry~~
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! As a teacher, I'd love to have that in the classroom. (Just working part time now.) But I do have a little board with a lace on it. The kids love to play with it. Sounds like your dad was a talented man.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
What a sweet family treasure. Now Don & I are buying shoes with Velcro...lol....
ReplyDeleteThat's precious! What a thoughtful Pop-Pop!
